SCIENCE DAILY –
Mar. 14, 2014 – A mathematical analysis of data from 88 international studies
looking for a link between diabetes and pancreatic cancer found that the
combined relative risk of pancreatic cancer was nearly two times higher for
people with diabetes, but the greatest risk was nearly seven times higher for people just after
being diagnosed with diabetes. The researchers concluded in their March online
first article in the journal Annals
of Surgical Oncology that there is a strong link between pancreatic
cancer and diabetes, particularly among those newly diagnosed with diabetes.
They suggest that new onset diabetes might be an early sign of pancreatic
cancer.
